Lennard left his home city of Bremen at the tender age of 14 in order to enter the Cottbus Sport School’s talent factory and realize his dream of becoming a professional cyclist.
In 2014, in addition to his series of wins in time trials, he drew attention to his talent with top five results in every one of his international multi-day races.
All of these successes made him the most successful cyclist in his age group in the world in 2014. He won the time trial world championships with an especially big lead.
He dealt with the media hype that ensued in a both sovereign and professional way.
During his first U23 season, he won the German hill-climbing and time-trial championships.
In January 2017, Lennard moved to the WorldTour Team Sunweb, a team he very quickly excelled in with tremendous results. In his third season for the team, he has been nominated for the Tour de France for the first time after strong performances, where he shined with a fourth and sixth place on two of the most difficult stages.
In 2020 Lennard joined the German WordTeam BORA – hansgrohe, for which he already achieved numerous strong results in his first races.
